Press Interview via djtonyh.com
1. I fell in love with music from listening to my mother play it throughout the house while she cleaned on weekends.
2. The passion deepened when my uncle took me to an event at 14, where I met 2Pac around the time Poetic Justice was out. I bought his album that day and found my inspiration.
3. I was deep in the streets, deep in the culture—that's where I crafted my artistic style and philosophy when it comes to promotions and business.
4. My training comes from mistakes I’ve made and the lessons I’ve taught myself—learning from the people I’ve met along this journey.
5. Early on, my uncle Marcus—better known to the world as DJ Marcus D—influenced me. He was the first person I saw build a business from the ground up as a DJ in high school. He was a little older than me, and on weekends, he’d pick me up while I snuck out to help him at his parties.
6. My creative process starts with silence—meditating on an idea until it comes to me. Then, I discuss it with my team and move forward to bring it to life.
7. The only materials I need: a cellphone, Wi-Fi, a laptop, and funding.
8. I overcome creative blocks through deep meditation on ideas—no rush, just letting them develop over time.
9. I decide when it’s time to close, as long as it’s a clear and transparent business decision.
10. My style and aesthetic are all about meaning what I say, looking like I’ve got it at all times, and having the confidence to close—making sure I always put myself in a winner's position.
11. The theme in everything I do in business now: be fair always and conquer what you started.
12. My style in business has evolved as I’ve gotten wiser shifting from entertainment to pursuing other passions I love, all while building generational wealth and more.
13. I create diversity to ensure I'm never one-sided.
14. My surroundings and the culture play a big role in my business because I’m always giving back and teaching from where I came from. No matter how far I go in life, I’ll stay grounded with my roots.
15. My biggest influences come from my family and friends, the ones I talk to all the time. We inspire each other for greatness.
